It is University policy that every international student and their dependents in the US be enrolled in a health insurance program upon arrival at the University. All new and continuing F-1 and J-1 students are required to purchase the University Health Plan. Students in J-1 status and who’s J-1 Program Sponsor provides acceptable health insurance must submit proof of such coverage to the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) every year. No other students may be exempt from the North Carolina A&T health insurance requirement. The charge is automatically included as part of your tuition bill each semester (Fall/Spring).
This health insurance requirement assures that most costs of illness and/or injuries including emergency department visits, hospitalizations, x-ray, laboratory tests, and other services which may not be obtained at the Health Service Center or covered by the health fee, will be paid for each student and his/her dependents (as stipulated by the health plan carrier). Note: On-campus health services are not available for dependents.
Any student who fails to purchase (pay the cost each semester) the University Health plan by the last day of registration, will have a hold placed on future registration, transcript release, or graduation. Other possible consequences may include termination of program and required reporting to US Citizenship and Immigration Service based on failing to maintain nonimmigrant status.

Dependent Health Care
Health insurance cost for families {dependent spouse and/or child(ren)} can be very expensive (as much as $1,750 to $3,500 per year. Those students who are interested in using the student insurance carrier for dependent coverage must purchase directly through the Insurance Company. Information on other plans can be picked up in the ISSO.
Supplemental Insurance
International students may wish to purchase supplemental insurance coverage (additional health, eye care and dental) or maintain secondary coverage from their home countries. Those students must also maintain the NCA&TSU International Student Health Plan each year of their program.
The insurance plan describing health insurance policies and benefits is available in the ISSO (221 Murphy Hall). It meets the standard specifications issued by the USCIS, which are:
