There are various choices for on-campus housing for undergraduate students. However, there is currently no housing on-campus for graduate students.

Undergraduate students interested in on-campus housing should communicate directly with the University Housing Office (located in Murphy Hall, Room 226) by telephone at 336-334-7708 or visit their website at http://www.ncat.edu/~housing/.

Note: When communicating with Housing Staff regarding on-campus housing make sure to inquire about housing that meets your needs. Due to the multiple residence hall settings they may be able to accommodate you, but understand on-campus does not guarantee single-living facilities.

“Off-Campus” housing refers to housing that is not owned by North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. There are two general types of off-campus housing:

  1. privately-owned homes
  2. apartments in complexes or buildings

For contact information on rental offices at apartment complexes and home owners (for rental properties) you can look in the yellow pages of the phone book, local newspaper, or on the World Wide Web.

Once you have identified available housing, you will need to determine which one best meets your needs. To do this you will need to contact landlords to set up an appointment. If your spoken English is not yet very good, you should locate a friend or someone from your home country who’s English is good to help you make phone calls and visit apartments. A word of caution, you should always make a physical visit of any selected housing choice before paying a deposit or signing a lease agreement.

When looking at an apartment, you should consider the following:

  • comfort
  • proximity to campus/access to local transportation
  • monthly cost
  • security (evaluate the neighborhood surroundings and living environment)
  • you may want to make sure a stove and refrigerator is included; otherwise you will have to buy it yourself

Utilities

If you will be living off-campus you will need to have your utilities (electricity and/or natural gas) turned on. You do this by calling Duke Power at 336-378-9451 for customer assistance.

On occasion, international students already in the U.S. and living off campus may be able to assist new students with housing arrangements (temporarily or permanent). If you would like to explore the option of housing with another international student, please send your request to isso@ncat.edu (There is no guarantee that this option will be available.)
