- Confirm that a foreign national can fill the position hired for (Human Resources/Contracts and Grants/Salary Administration)
- Consult with ISSO to make sure the individual has the proper documentation to begin employment at NCA&TSU.
- Assist Scholar with pre-arrival and arrival task:
- Processing and delivery of Immigration documents for Scholar to apply for visa.
- Provide airport pick-up and transportation arrangements to and from campus
- Assist Scholars with housing accommodations
- Clarify employment expectations (position duties) and acclimate visitor to office area and equipment.
- Schedule a check-in appointment for all new scholars and their dependents (if applicable) with ISSO upon arrival.
- Notify ISSO of any changes in the individuals terms of employment
- Make sure the individual completes and returns the Departure Form to ISSO prior to leaving the US.
Payroll
Once the foreign scholar/employee completes the check-in process with ISSO, they should contact the University Payroll office at 334-7888 to schedule an appointment to complete the requirements for payment eligibility. The Payroll Office and Host Department will assist the individual in completion of Form I-9 (certificate of eligibility to work), federal and state tax withholding documents and Foreign National Questionnaire. All questions regarding “tax treaty” benefits should be addressed to the Payroll Office.
The individual will need a Social Security Number (SSN) in order to be paid. If the individual does not have a SSN, the ISSO staff person will provide the new hire with an application and letter certifying employment.
