The Admissions Process for international applicants consists of two main stages:

  • acceptance into an academic degree program and

  • the ability to meet requirements for the issuance of the Certificate of Eligibility (I-20/DS-2019) with which to apply for the nonimmigrant student visa.

Admissions processes are handled by the Graduate Admissions Office or  the Undergraduate Admissions Office, respectively.   Following instructions made available on the admissions web pages, International applicants must submit the admissions application, original transcripts and other academic documents as requested within the required time frames. Applicants must also  pay the application fees before the review can begin.   Inquiries regarding applications, transcripts, TOEFL or GRE scores, and other academic materials should be directed to the appropriate admissions office. Once an applicant has been accepted into an academic program, the appropriate admissions office will mail the applicant a letter of acceptance.   International applicants must be accepted into a degree program before advancing to stage two of the admissions process:

The procedures listed here will guide you in completing the additional steps necessary for obtaining the Certificate of Eligibility (I-20/DS-2019) and/or clearance of your current legal status (if applicable) to enroll and attend the University.

  • The Financial Guarantee Form must be completed and signed.  Return pages 3 and 4 of the form along with all required bank certified documents or documentation confirming sponsorship, University funding, or any combination of support in the minimum amount of $23,000 (USD).

  • Complete, sign and return the International Student Data Form. (form to be uploaded 08/2008)

  • Provide a photocopy of the identification page(s) in your passport or official document showing the correct name combination you will be using inside the United States and at the University.

  • If you are currently in F-1 or J-1 status inside the United States you will be asked to provide the ISSO with documents confirming your current legal status to include the Certificate of Eligibility (I-20/DS-2019), the I-94 (front and back, a valid passport and U.S. visa stamp pages, etc.) and you must complete the SEVIS transfer process.  The Transfer Clearance Form will be provided to you at the appropriate time by the ISSO.  You may contact the ISSO by phone or e-mail to obtain additional information regarding transfer clearance.

  • If you are in a current legal status with education benefits other than F-1 or J-1 you will be asked to confirm your legal status before you enroll.

If it appears that you cannot complete the requirements for admission and enrollment by the semester for which you have applied, you may wish to consider deferring your enrollment eligibility to the next full semester.  Please contact the appropriate admissions office for details regarding deferment requests.
