Admissions Deadlines for International Students
Outside the United
States and/or
Students Inside
the U.S. Required
to Travel Home and Re-enter the U.S.
Over the years
the International
Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) has allowed flexibility
with acceptance deadlines
for international
students; however, due to changes in immigration regulations,
visa application
procedures and
Department of
Homeland
Security
clearance
procedures for
entry and exit the ISSO
and the
Admissions
offices have
recommended “Completed
Admissions” deadlines for international applicants
outside the
United States and/or nonimmigrant students inside
the United States who are required to travel
home and re-enter
the United States in legal F-1/J-1 status. These dates
have been set to give nonimmigrant applicants
the best opportunity
to gain visa approval and coordinate U.S. arrival
within 30 days of the semester begin date.
“Completed Admissions” deadlines follow:
Fall Semester.....................................May 25th
Spring Semester..........................October 10th
Summer Session(s)............................April 1st
The ISSO will continue to work with the University Admissions Offices and academic departments to process visa eligibility forms for students whose “completed admission” fall after the dates listed above, however, we cannot guarantee issuance of an I-20 nor will the ISSO assume responsibility to facilitate late arrivals for the semester should students not receive the visa and Department of State clearances in time to begin the semester and be validated as required in SEVIS.
Special Note: Form issuance, visa application and entry to the United States, as well as reporting to the school after arrival now require electronic registration in the Student Exchange Visitor Information System maintained by USCIS. Therefore students must enter the U.S. before the last day of class registration of the enrollment semester. Students entering or attempting to enter the U.S. on an I-20 /DS-2019 issued for a begin date in conjunction with approved academic semesters AFTER the last date for approved registration WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE OUT OF STATUS AND MAY BE required to apply for reinstatement and/or face immediate deportation.
If you have questions about the Issuance Deadline dates, please feel free to contact us at (336) 334-7551 or isso@ncat.edu; or leharvey@ncat.edu; or loretha@ncat.edu.
The ISSO reserves the right to recommend that international applicants request to defer enrollment to the next semester if an I-20/DS-2019 cannot be issued for the existing acceptance date.
