North
Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is gearing
up for the installation of its 11th chancellor, Stanley F. Battle. A three-day
celebration
is planned for April 23-25.
Public events include an academic lecture series presented by the schools and
colleges, a benefit music concert featuring Chancellor Battle
and his brother Stewart, receptions, and campus tours, culminating with the installation
ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 25, in Corbett Sports Center.
“Chancellor Stanley F. Battle’s installation as the 11th
chancellor … is an exciting and historical moment in the life
of North Carolina A&T State University,” said Provost
and
Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Janice Brewington, cochair of the installation
steering committee.
“We are planning activities that are designed to engage
the community in academia, arts, social issues, business and
research, and are centered around the theme, “We Believe in
North Carolina A&T State University,” added Shirley
Frye, cochair of the steering committee. “We are expecting thousands of people
from across the country to partake in the festivities.”
The installation is being coordinated by a 24-member steering committee
that
includes A&T
faculty, staff, administrators, students, alumni, trustees and friends in the
community. Ex-Officio committee members are William Clay and Wendell Phillips. Other committee members include Judith Battle, Leonora C. Bryant, Velma Speight-Buford,
Linda Florence Callahan, Quiester Craig, Harry Giberson, Pamela Johnson, Mark
Kiel, Wanda Lester, Albert Lineberry Jr., Maria Palmer, Andrew Perkins, Robert
Pompey, Michael Plater, Walker Sanders, Mable Scott, MacArthur Sims, Obrie Smith,
David Street, Kimberly Sowell, Vijay Verma and Sullivan Welborne Jr.
Battle assumed the role of chancellor at A&T
on July 1, 2007.
