Financial Aid
Student Life

NC A&T State University attempts to help the qualified student who might otherwise be unable to complete his or her university education. Financial assistance in the form of grants, loans, scholarships and part-time employment is available from Federal, private and corporate sources.

The following financial aid guidelines were in effect at the time of publication but are subject to change.

To be considered for Federally funded aid, such as

  •   the Pell (Basic) Grant which is based on the entitlement concept
  •   the campus based National Direct Student Loan Program
  •   the College Work-Study program
  •   the Supplementary Education Opportunity Grant

you should start completing applications while still in high school by completing the following steps:

  •   Submit a Family Financial Statement (FFS) to the American College Testing Services (ACTS).
Be sure to include the NC A & T code number on this application, and check the appropriate box indicating information that may be sent to the Pell Grant office.
  •   Four to six weeks after filing the FFS you will receive your Student Aid Report (SAR).
Submit this with a copy of a parent and student 1040 or 1040A tax form as applicable from the previous tax year to the Financial Aid Office at A & T.

The Strafford Student Loan program allows student to borrow from banks and other financial institutions.

In addition to the above general sources of financial assistance, engineering applicants who gain admission may be eligible for assistance from private sources such as

  •   the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering, Inc., (NACME)
  •   formerly the National Foundation for Minority Engineering Students (NFMES)
  •   the R.J. Reynolds Scholarship fund and others

Students are invited to apply for NACME scholarships, and selection is based on their potential to succeed as engineers demonstrated by past academic performance.

Funding begins in the freshman year and continues until graduation on condition that an acceptable level of academic performance is maintained, and the student remains within the engineering program.

Corporate scholarships are available to selected minority, majority and women engineering students.  Eligibility is generally based on proven academic performance over one or more semesters,  plus evidence that the student has exceeded the academic and other guidelines set by the benefactor.

The programs vary, usually carrying special conditions and often involving a summer internship as in the Co-op program.
In return, the selected student may receive partial or full tuition, book allowance while at school, and valuable practical engineering experience with pay during the summer.

Please consult with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies for details.

Because most scholarships awarded to new freshmen and transfers are highly competitive,
applications should be submitted by

  •   February 1.

The suggested deadline for mailing your application, however, is

  •   June 1 for the Fall semester

  •   December 1 for the Spring semester.

International students on non-immigrant VISAs are required to submit the application by

  •   May 1 for fall semester

  •   November 1 for the spring semester .
