What is Liberal
Studies?
The Bachelor of Arts in Liberal
Studies is an interdisciplinary degree designed to prepare
students for employment, civic participation, and life-long
learning in our complex global environment. Students
must complete 124 semester hours that include 24 hours in a
Concentration and 6 hours of Related Electives. They
also must earn at least a
“C” in all concentration courses, related electives,
ENGL 100 (or UNST 110), ENGL 101, HIST 100, and HIST 101.
The Liberal Studies
program offers concentrations in African-American Studies; Business;
Cultural Change and Social Development; Dance; International
Studies; Race, Class, and Culture; Women's Studies; Pre-Law; and a
customized Interdisciplinary Studies concentration. The
customized concentration allows students to design programs to meet
their educational
and career goals, and often is chosen by students returning to
college after a break for family, career,
or other pursuits.

*Liberal
Studies: Business Concentration majors have to take MATH 111 and BUAD 220.
A final grade of ‘C’ or better is required
for all Concentration, Related Electives, ENGL 100, UNST110,
ENGL101, and HIST 100/101 classes.
Interdisciplinary Studies Concentration
(Major Code 0306)
In consultation with the Director of
Liberal Studies, a student may design a program for the
Interdisciplinary Studies Concentration. The combination of
Concentration Studies (of 24 semester hours) and Related Electives
(of 6 semester hours) courses may not replicate an existing degree
program and must include courses from at least three subject areas.
The body of knowledge for the concentration will be determined by
the academic units (Departments or Schools) from which the
concentration draws courses. Prior to its implementation, the
program of study must be approved by the Director of Liberal
Studies, the student’s academic advisor, the advisor’s departmental
coordinator, and the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. A
student may not declare a major of Liberal Studies:
Interdisciplinary until the concentration coursework has been
approved by all of these University officials.

Studies Program or would like to become a Liberal Studies major,
