HEALTH CENTER FAQs
1. What hours are the Student Health Center open?
Sebastian Health Center is open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.. during the Fall and Spring Semesters. The Health Center is closed when residence halls are closed. The hours of operation are also modified during the summer sessions. All changes in clinic hours will be posted or announced.

- Pharmacy: 8 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
- Summer Nursing Hours: 8 a.m.-9 p.m.
2. Who is eligible for services? Students are eligible for health care in the Student Health Center if they have paid the student health fee for the current semester. Graduate and research students must pay the standard health fee during registration to receive services. Validated student I.D. cards must be presented before treatment, except in an acute emergency.
3. How much does it cost? All nursing and physician visits are free of charge except for the physical examination and immunizations needed for class attendance. There are charges for all prescriptions, medical supplies and lab testing. Students will be responsible for payment of any off-campus referrals for physician treatment, laboratory work, x-rays, and emergency care.
4. If there is a charge, how can I pay? All charges for the Student Health Center are posted in each service area. Certain costs may not be determined until further consultation and diagnoses are made. Acceptable forms of payment for services are as follows:
- Cash
- Aggie One Card
- MasterCard, VISA, American Express, ATM/Debit with valid identification
- Checks (with valid identification)
- May be charged to student’s account if fee is greater than $5.00.

5. What does my health fee pay for?
- Access to health professionals, including physicians, physician extenders, nurses, & health
educators.
- Partial subsidization of pharmaceutical items and laboratory procedures.
- Health education programs and events.
6. Are Doctors on campus? Physician is available on campus, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Physicians are on call after-hours for emergency consultations.
7. Where is the Student Health Center? The Student Health Center (Sebastian Health Center) is located on Nocho Street. This is the same street that Harrison Auditorium and Murphy Hall (Housing) are located. The center is located on the hill on the right.
8. Do I need an appointment to see a nurse or physician? Appointments are not required in order to see a physician, for some problems but you can minimize your waiting time by calling in advance to schedule an appointment. Appointments can be made in person or by calling 336.334.7880. Appointments are scheduled Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Urgent medical situations will be handled as soon as possible.
9. What types of laboratory services are offered at the Student Health Center? The Sebastian Health Center offers comprehensive laboratory services to students of the University. These services include hematology and chemistry profiles, STD testing , and pregnancy tests, and a host of other specialty protocols. Some tests may require nominal fees.
10. What if I want to get started on birth control pills?
What if I need condoms?
What if I want to get emergency contraception (morning after pill)?
What if I want to get a pregnancy test? What if I want to talk about sexual issues? The Health Center is the place for you! Just call us and we can see you to talk about any of the above questions. We do testing for males and females (using a confidential tracking system) and you may purchase medications and supplies from us for STD protection and/or for pregnancy prevention.
11. Why do I have a Health Center hold on my registration and how do I get it removed? All students, graduate and undergraduate, are required to submit immunization records and physical examination forms to the Student Health Center in order to register for classes. When required health information is not received in the Student Health Center, or if information does not meet the necessary requirements, a hold is placed on your registration, preventing you from class registration at the University. To get registration holds removed, you must contact the Student Health Center to determine what information has not been received. Once you submit the required information, the Student Health Center staff will lift the registration hold, clearing you to register.

12. Does the Student Health Center keep a copy of my vaccination records and how do I get a copy? The Student Health Center keeps all health records, including vaccination records for a period of 8 years after you graduate or leave the University. To obtain a copy of your health records you must submit a written request and pay $25.00 for the entire record. To obtain a copy of your immunizations health records you must submit a written request and pay $5.00 for a copy or fax.

13. I need allergy shots; can the SHC nurse at the University Health give me my shot? Yes. Contact the University Health Center’s Nursing Staff at 336.334.7880 for the policy and procedures of administering allergy shots.
14. The Student Health Center is closed, what should I do? In the event of a medical emergency (injury or illness) anywhere on campus, contact Campus Police and Public Safety Administration at 336.334.7675. If necessary, the individual will be sent to the emergency department at Moses Cone Emergency Room or to a local hospital of the individual’s choice.

15. Can I get my prescriptions filled in the Student Health Center? The pharmacy provides pharmaceutical services for eligible students. Students have the option of using the health center’s pharmacy or an off-campus source. Those prescriptions filled outside the health center are at the student’s expense. There is also a charge for all medications dispensed from the health center pharmacy. Over-the-counter medications may also be purchased at the health center for a nominal fee.
16. Do I have to go to the Student Health Center for treatment first, or can I choose an outside provider? You can see an outside physician; however, you will be subject to your deductible and any coinsurance that applies. You are encouraged to use Student Health Center for non-emergency conditions.
17. How confidential are my records? Health records are confidential. No release of information is given without written consent and/or a signed record release form from the student. This includes faculty, staff, and parents. (Exception: subpoena)
18. Does the Student Health Center offer Counseling Services? The Student Health Center provides psychiatric services for emotional or mental health issues by voluntary appointment only. Sebastian Health Center also employs a Board certified Psychiatrist who is available for consults by appointment and as needed. The Counseling Center, located in Murphy Hall, has professional counselors to assist students with emotional or mental health issues. 19. What if I am too sick to go to class or miss a test because I’m sick? The physician or physician extender can only grant excused absences from class. Extensions of absences from classes for medical reasons are made on the basis of individual need. Refrain from requesting retroactive excuses covering dates that you were absent from class and not seen by the physician in the Health Center. Students should refrain from waiting to be seen through scheduled class periods or examinations unless it is an emergency situation.
