Tuition Assistance: Policies and Procedures for Tuition Support

    A formal Student Financial Aid Scholarship Form is required in the School of Graduate Studies for each student receiving tuition remission and/or tuition award. The award form should outline:

  • the student's name
  • social security number
  • citizenship
  • department's name
  • approval amount
  • time period for award


  • Additionally, the department must provide a copy of the letter to the student informing him/her of the award as well as a copy of the documentation showing that the recommended student is receiving at least the required $1,000 per semester stipend.

    The original documentation is then sent to the Financial Aid Office for processing and a copy is maintained in the School of Graduate Studies Office.

    To qualify for tuition remission (in-state and out-of-state), a student must meet the following criteria:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • First year student must have an undergraduate GPA of 2.6
  • Continuing students must have a GPA of 3.0 to keep this award
  • Receive recommendation and matching funds from recommending department
  • Department must provide at least $1,000 in support per semester
