Graduate Application Instructions (International Students)

The application packet consists of the following forms:

·  Application for admission to the School of Graduate Studies

·  Three (3) recommendation forms and envelopes (Letters will be accepted in lieu of or in conjunction with recommendation forms. Although it is extremely helpful if these letters are sent with the other application materials, recommendation letters can be mailed separately).

·  Graduate assistantship or fellowship application

·  Verification of N.C. residency form (To be completed by U.S. Naturalized citizens or permanent residents ONLY).

Please submit completed application forms along with the following supporting documents:

·  Application Fee: Non-refundable application processing fee of $45 (check, money order, or certified check payable to North Carolina A&T State University; please do not submit cash)

·  Transcripts: Two (2) official transcripts of your academic record in a sealed envelope from all colleges or universities you have attended.

·  Transcript Evaluation for Non-Engineering Programs

·  Transcript Evaluation for Engineering Programs

·  TOEFL Scores: Official TOEFL scores of at least 550 or better (213 computer-based score) for students graduating from colleges or universities located in non-English speaking countries. Please have the scores submitted directly from the testing agency to the School of Graduate Studies.

·  Graduate Test Scores: Most departments strongly encourage and/or require standardized test scores. To determine whether or not your academic program requires a standardized test, contact the program of interest or refer to the North Carolina A&T State University Graduate Catalog webpage. Please request that the official testing service or agency send your scores directly to the School of Graduate Studies.

·  Letter of Intent: A personal statement describing career goals, research interests and a list of publications, experience, academic honors, and organizations. Although it is not required by all academic departments, admission committees consider this statement to be a document that strongly supports the application for admission.

International applicants are required to provide the University with verification that the required funds are available to support the proposed program of study. The applicant must also provide information regarding current visa status. Special forms to supply this information can be obtained from the School of Graduate Studies or by contacting the International Students and Scholars Office at 122 Murphy Hall, North Carolina A&T State University, Greensboro, NC 27411 or (336) 334-7551.

The application and all supporting documents should be filed as early as possible to allow sufficient time for processing by both the academic program and the School of Graduate Studies. The application and all supporting documents should be received by the School of Graduate Studies no later than July 1 for Fall, November 1 for Spring, and April 1 for Summer Sessions. Some programs have an earlier deadline; therefore applicants are responsible for contacting the academic department for specific deadline information.

Students who choose not to enroll for the semester in which they are applying may request in writing to defer their application and supporting documents, up to one year. After one year, students are required to complete the entire application process again.
