Financial Aid & Support: Assistantship Guidelines


Types:

  • Graduate Administrative Assistant (GAA)
  • Graduate Research Assistant (GRA)
  • Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA)


  • Eligibility:
    All Graduate Assistants must be fully admitted to a graduate program, devoting full-time study toward a degree. To be considered for an assistantship, a student must not hold non-degree, special or probationary status at the university. Additionally, candidates for graduate assistantships must:
  • register for a specific number of hours during the academic year, as prescribed by their academic departments
  • maintain a 3.0 GPA
  • satisfy other requirement specified by the employing department
  • sign a Personal Service Agreement or contract as a condition of employment


  • Teaching Assistantships:
    International students applying for teaching assistantships must score a minimum of 550 on TOEFL. To qualify for a GA appointment, a student must satisfy the following requirements:
  • Pursue a degree at NCA&TSU
  • Register during the academic year for a specific number of hours prescribed by the department
  • Maintain a 3.0 grade point average and make progress towards the graduate degree
  • Satisfy other requirements published by the employing department

    All Graduate Assistants must sign a contract (Personal Service Agreement) as a condition of employment.

    Graduate assistant must be evaluated at least once a year.

    Each employment department is responsible for completing an evaluation form for its Graduate Assistants.

    You may obtain these forms from the Graduate Studies Office.

    The School of Graduate Studies Office offers two orientation and training sessions during the academic year to prepare graduate assistants for their roles and responsibilities.
