University Studies at North Carolina A&T State University

Since spring, 2002, North Carolina A&T State University has been undergoing a comprehensive review and revision of its General Education program as part of the Futures strategic vision initiative.  The General Education Review Committee, with faculty representatives from each of the Colleges and Schools, has overseen the review process, developing recommendations for revising the General Education program and implementing changes in the General Education curriculum. A new General Education structure and curriculum - University Studies - will be implemented in fall, 2006 and the first University Studies Dean, Dr. Joseph Graves, Jr., was hired in August, 2005 to lead and manage the University Studies program. The University Studies curriculum is the heart and soul of the university's academic mission to prepare students for careers in a dynamic, global, knowledge-based economy that demands life-long learning.   We all benefit from a strong General Education foundation and we encourage you to become involved in the implementation process.

The aim of the University Studies Committee has been to make the review/revision/implementation process as transparent as possible, with ongoing feedback from faculty campus-wide helping to inform program design and policies.  That commitment continues as a new Dean of University Studies takes over day-to-day responsibility for the management of the University Studies program. The resources available here are intended to inform, educate, and engage you.  Become part of this important process and share your ideas, concerns, suggestions, and questions with the Dean of University Studies and the University Studies Committee members. We are looking forward to the implementation of the University Studies curriculum in fall, 2006.
