Scholarship Policy and Procedures

The North Carolina A& T State University Scholarship Policy is in place to help students have a clear understanding of their scholarship award. University scholarships are given to help assist students with their educational expenses. We want all students to reach their educational goals. Our hope is that through the student's hard work, determination, and our assistance they will become that next great leader that will empower someone else to reach their educational goals.

Scholarship Policy

The purpose of the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Scholarship Awards Policy is to provide consistent guidelines to the University community for the awarding of University-wide scholarships.  Through the effective use of these guidelines, the numbers of students receiving University-wide awards will be maximized.

Scholarship funds awarded through University-Wide Scholarship Programs as listed above will be limited to the costs of tuition, University fees (excluding Orientation Fee), room and board, and in selected cases, books.

Students who reside on campus and are awarded a scholarship through the Scholarship Office, Academic Affairs and Student Financial Aid Office to include room and board will receive funding to cover the actual on-campus room and board costs unless the letter of award indicates differently.  Students who reside off campus and whose scholarship award includes room and board will be awarded and award equivalent to an average on-campus student housing.

Scholarship awards may be reduced or canceled by the Student Financial Aid Office if it is determined that the student is over awarded or over budget.  (For more information about your budget visit www.ncat.edu/finaid )

The Financial Assistance Programs listed below may make up reduce or cancel the amount of the University-wide Scholarship Award(s).

  • Federal Pell Grant

  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)

  • Incentive Grants

  • UNC Grants

  • Other Federal/State or Institutional Scholarships

Financial Aid awards through the student loan assistance program are not impacted by this policy as they are governed by federal regulations.

External awards received from entities such as high schools, churches, fraternities/sororities, etc. will not reduce University-Wide Scholarship Awards unless student is over institutional budget.

Federal and State financial assistance may be reduced or canceled to prevent an over-award or over-budget as determined by the Student Financial Aid Office. Students must meet the criteria of the scholarship by the end of the Spring semester each year to continue for next financial aid year.
