Minutes from the June 11 Teleconference
Attendees: Albert Esterline, Matt Heavner, Tracy Hansen,
Tom Lefebvre, MarySue Schultz, others from NCA&T
Discussion
-
Grid computing vs. grid data type was discussed. When talking about grids,
it would be a good idea to specify which kind.
-
Albert described the three sections of the 5-year plan he had sent out.
Matt discussed his 5-year plan also, and it was decided that a fourth
section should be added to Albert's plan for Matt. GSD will be working
on a project using Alaska sensor data, and plans for that will be added
to Matt's section. After we're all satisfied with our individual sections,
they should all be combined into a single 5-year plan.
-
Matt and one of his students will visit GSD on July 2, to discuss EIS and
SEAMONSTER. The schedule could include presentations about both of these,
followed by a discussion of plans for the next stages of development. Tracy
and MarySue will coordinate with Matt before the meeting. Matt is also
planning a follow-up visit to GSD on Aug. 13-14.
-
Matt and Tom discussed some details of how to calculate orographic lift
using Alaska sensor data and wind data from another source. They will
follow up on this off line. Matt mentioned including Carl Dierking from
the Juneau WFO in the discussions.
-
Markup Languages: The group is interested in the different markup languages,
specifically which ones would be the best for our needs. We should include
investigation of these in our 5-year plan.
Action Items
-
Albert will send GSD additional information about Li's work on grid services
and Esterline's work on data fusion.
-
We will coordinate with each other on the 5-year plan. During the next two
weeks, each group will further develop their own sections of the plan. A
fourth section will be added for Matt's part of the project. GSD will
provide information on EIS development for that section also.
-
GSD will get information on having students visit NOAA for a few weeks.
Specifically:
- How would this activity be initiated?
- What would the students do while at NOAA?
- Can the ISET funds that have been allocated to GSD be used for the student visits?
-
Tracy will send out examples of Matt's data in KML and GML, so the
group can see what the differences are.
-
Albert will have his grad students send their thesis topics to Matt and
to GSD, if he decides he would like to have our participation on Masters
degree committees.
-
Tom will contact Carl Dierking to find out what data he is archiving,
so we can fill in any data gaps if need be.
