Minutes from the July 16 Teleconference
Attendees: Matt Heavner, Albert Esterline, Tom Lefebvre,
Tracy Hansen, MarySue Schultz
Discussion
-
First, a recap of Matt's visit to Boulder. Matt gave a nice presentation
describing the SEAMONSTER project and its goals and status. Albert should
put a link to the presentation on his ISET web site. During the meeting,
we came up with a list of tasks for the EIS prototype, and a time line.
Tracy emailed the meeting notes to the group on July 9.
-
Albert and Matt discussed agents, and their use in the Alaska sensor web.
Matt explained that the UAS sensors are in place, but the agent logic is
not very advanced. Albert said that there is a convergence of ideas
between the agent and web services communities, and maybe we can tap into
that. Matt and Albert will continue to pursue this topic off-line. It would
be good if they copied everyone on any email on this subject, so we can
all keep up to speed.
-
Albert explained the difference between sensor fusion and data mining.
In general, sensor fusion is near real-time, involving smaller volumes
of data. Data mining involves larger volumes of historical data. There
is some overlap in data extraction and analysis techniques. The
University of Minnesota group is working in data mining.
-
A question was raised about what correlation equations to use to analyze
Matt's data in the EIS prototype. We basically want to see what the effects
of elevation are on precip and wind. Vipin Kumar, Michael Steinbach and
Carl Dierking were mentioned as possible sources for the equations. Tracy
expressed interest in contacting Michael Steinbach, Matt will talk with
Carl Dierking.
-
Student participation in this project was discussed. A number of students
are interested, and we need to look into how to organized student visits
to ESRL.
-
It was suggested that we post our meeting minutes on the web site - this
would make it easy for interested students and others to see what our plans
are. (Albert has already done this).
-
An ISET meeting has been scheduled for September 6 and 7 in Boulder. We
are all interested in having some time for just our group to meet. Tom,
Tracy and MarySue will see if we can get some time set aside for that.
