Minutes from the April 16, 2008 Teleconference
Discussion
-
Josh Jones from UAS will continue working on the snow melt model for the
Lemon Creek glacier, maybe extending the model to cover the Mendenhall
Glacier as well. Also, if anyone is depending on the the data service
that provides access to UAS sensor web data, it should be up and stable.
-
Matt is looking into NASA's EO-1 Satellite Program as an area for research.
There may be opportunities for coordinating sensor webs and imaging of
transient events such as the emptying of the Lemon Creek glacier lakes.
-
The Sensor Information Framework paper has been accepted for the PDPTA
Conference on Las Vegas. There was discussion about who would be able
to give the paper at the conference - MarySue is looking into it.
Students at NOAA ESRL This Summer
The students visiting Boulder this summer include:
-
Will Wright from NCAT. He will be working on his masters
thesis this summer when visiting NOAA. His thesis involves investigating
multi-agent Web services, and his work may interface with the workflow
services that Cheickna and Kawana will be developing.
-
Cheickna Baber from NCAT. He will work on his masters
thesis as well. He's looking into ways of getting Web services to work
together by creating composite services. Composite and component Web services were discussed: component services are what's commonly found on the Web
today; a composite service provides a way to find alternative component
services if a particular component service is unavailable.
-
Kawana Fuller from NCAT. She will work with Cheickna.
The NCAT students are planning to send brief descriptions to GSD of the
work they propose to do at NOAA so that the folks at NOAA can develop an
integrated project for them to work on during their visit.
Another student from NCAT, Sentel Allen, would also like to work with the group
this summer but will be located in North Carolina. This will provide some
experience in working on teams where people are in different locations.
Next Meeting
The next teleconference will be Wed., April 30 at 9:00 AM MST.
