I am getting sick of all this wordy bull shit!!!! I have change providers, I have changed phone lines. My provider supports both x2 and kflex and is running v 90 standard, the highest that I have ever connected is 28,800, and that is the fastest!!! I am so sick of the bull shit run around that Compaq has been giving me. It may look good from the outside, but I am sick of the shit on the inside. I know about computers and I don't like to feel like an idiot when I call their tech support. I say we should all build our own computers and forget these big companies that end up screwing you in the end!!! Let me know if any thing is updated. - Joanna
: : I've seen a few posts concerning the modem speed not achieving 56K, it won't, the legal speed is 53K. But still, some speeds only reach 33.6 or 28.8. The reason why is because your modem technology is NOT supported by your ISP. Compaq modems come with the K56flex technology, your ISP may have the x2 technology. If the ISP your dialing into has x2 and you have k56flex, the technology does not match, therefore, the maximum speed you can reach is 33.6K. To fix this, call your ISP and check if they support K56flex technology, if they don't either change ISPs or modems.

: My ISP is a 56 flex system. My computer is the model 4840 with a 56k flex. My neighbor on the same phone line connects at a minimum of 34 k. I carried my computer to his house and get 26.4 k. The same at my house. The only difference is he has a us robatics 56k flex modem. Compaq support can't even answer the questions I've ask. They recommended I try their Support forum on line, which I did. What I found out is a lot of other people have the same problem, only 26400 connect speeds. One message of a modem changeout to another brand and an immediate increase in speed. Compaq's Email said they are now investigating some modem issues that have been reported. I hope you are getting good service from your modem, but many are not. By the way, I've been working with computers since the 70's. Before windows, for you younger guys and gals. I'm no expert but I know when something is not working correctly. Thanks for you input, all. Howard
