Vision & Impact

The Leadership and Community Development Cluster (LCDC) is an interdisciplinary group that brings together faculty and staff from all units on the campus to engage in research activities that focus on building and strengthening the community.

The vision of the LCDC is to design, plan, conduct, and implement research that leads to improvements in the viability of the communities that NCA&T serves. It does this by establishing a collaborative forum in which the expertise of various academic disciplines, and the experiences and backgrounds of organizations and individuals, is used to educate citizens to become leaders in their community. The resulting resources that promote leadership encourage and support organized community groups as they address issues that impact the specific community. To do this the cluster

  1. involves multiple institutions and social structures;
  2. partners equally with communities;
  3. includes all constituencies;
  4. develops local leadership;
  5. considerers globalization and takes advantage of the potential of e-commerce; and
  6. creates the sense of efficacy, empowerment, self-determination, and hope that is essential to developing vital communities.
