Inspiration/Motivation

I was inspired to become a researcher in the academy by my graduate advisor at a time when I did not see many women represented in the sciences.  I have been very fortunate to have the opportunity to return to my alma mater, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University to teach and train young people to become responsible scientists.

Vision

My vision is to continue to develop my research laboratory in the area of bacterial genomics and to increase it to accommodate the training and mentoring of undergraduate students, MS and PhD candidates and postdoctoral fellows.
