Aggie Owned Company
Lands Products On Major Retail Shelves
Cultural
Hangups, an Aggie owned company founded by Cynthia
Parker Ham (’90), John F. Ham (’89) and
Steven V. Jones (’90), introduced its exclusive
collection of culturally inspired wall borders in
Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores in 2004. Lowe’s
recognized Cultural Hangups in 2005 as one of its
suppliers with exceptional products who consistently
exceeds fulfillment requirements. Cultural Hangups
is currently on tour with Lowe’s teaching “how
to” classes at select stores throughout the
Southeast.
Cultural Hangups has recently launched
its Cultural Accents collection, which includes culturally
inspired bedding, bath and home accessories. Cultural
Accents will debut in Kohl’s stores in August
2006 and Wal-Mart stores in February 2007. According
to John F. Ham, “we are very excited about the
opportunity of working with our retail partners, but
we are most excited about the fact that people of
color can now purchase home décor products
that celebrate their heritage and lifestyle from national
stores. This is a true representation of inclusion
at the retail level,” added John.

and Cynthia Ham

Dr. Lloyd V. Hackley
Interim Chancellor Named
Dr. Lloyd "Vic" Hackley
has been named interim deputy chancellor of
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State
University. The appointment, effective immediately,
was announced May 1 by UNC President Erskine
B. Bowles. Following the June 1 departure of
Chancellor James C. Renick, who is stepping
down to take a senior leadership position with
the American Council on Education, Hackley will
serve as interim chancellor of A&T until
a permanent campus leader is elected by the
UNC Board of Governors.
Dr. Hackley has a wide range of
experience in the field of higher education.
He is past president of the North Carolina Community
College System, former chancellor and tenured
professor of both Fayetteville State University
and the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff,
and associate professor of
Political Science, as well as coach of track
and cross-country at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
He was chair of the North Carolina Child Advocacy
Institute, chair of the Arkansas Civil Rights
Commission, and chair of the President’s
Advisory Board on Historically Black Colleges
and Universities. Dr. Hackley was also a faculty
member in the Government Executive Institute
at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Business, and
Vice President in the University of North Carolina
system.
While serving as Chancellor
of Fayetteville State University from 1988 to
1995, Dr. Hackley expanded program offerings
and improved the campus environment in response
to the needs and interests of students and the
community. Both FSU’s baccalaureate and
graduate degrees expanded to include more areas
and the university added its first doctoral
program. FSU conducted its first public capital
campaign during Dr. Hackley’s tenure,
a successful project that allowed the university
to boost the number of privately-funded scholarships
it provided students.
