Ceremonial Dig with Bulldozer North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University held an official Groundbreaking Ceremony for its New General Academic Classroom Building on Aug. 18, on the new site, on Bluford Street. The $25 million multi-disciplinary building will house the ever-growing need for instructional, laboratory, and faculty departments, including University Studies, The Honors Program and The International Programs offices. North Carolina A&T State University Chancellor Harold L. Martin Sr. led groundbreaking efforts with his engineering expertise by actually operating a construction escavator to dig up dirt on the site. N.C. A&T representatives from the Board of Trustees, Student Government Association, faculty, staff, and architects joined Chancellor Martin with regular shovels during the ceremony. Located adjacent to the School of Education building and right in the heart of campus, the new facility is approximately 71,000 square feet of programmed space and will serve the entire campus. Architectural fiLinkrm, The Freelon Group, out of Research Triangle Park, designed the building with contour to create dynamic spaces inside and an inviting atrium and exterior courtyard. The three tiered building will consist of medium/large lecture rooms, tiered classrooms, teaching laboratories and offices for full and part time faculties. |
