  WINNER #1

As an alumna of the university, homecoming is a time to share with other Aggies and friends all that has happened in our lives since the last time we were together. Some of that will reflect joyous times with our families, sharing in our accomplishments, as well as some periods of sadness, remembering those who are no longer with us in flesh, but in spirit. We will spend the weekend making new memories with the Gap Band on Friday evening, watching the parade on Saturday morning, then moving to War Memorial Stadium to browse through the merchandise sold by the vendors, lastly to the tailgate section of Aggie Stadium to get a bite to eat before the game begins. Before the game begins we will give thanks for our many blessings, which include our new taste of victory long overdue.

Homecoming is so special to me for many reasons:
I am from Greensboro and all my childhood was based on what happened at A&T because my parents met there; they both worked and retired from A&T with a combination of over 60 years of employment; I went to kindergarten there; I met my husband there; my father-in-law is an Aggie; my three children are all Aggies and my son received his masters degree there also; my blood is blue and gold; my father LOVED A&T with all his heart and soul; my parents entertained their friends at Homecoming every year; my father passed in 1990, but every Homecoming I have such fond memories of him at the games because he cheered his heart out (I do the same and feel that he is looking down at me very proudly; my baby sister is an Aggie; my sister under me retired from A&T; I took my children and my nieces and nephews to the Homecoming for more than 10 years; Homecoming is special because I so look forward to seeing my classmates (1969-1973) because we were and are such a close class. It warms my heart to see them and enjoy conversations with them about the old days, new days and our children. In a nutshell, Homecoming at A&T is my pride and joy for the university that has mean so much to me for the past 35 years!!! AGGIE PRIDE!!!!

Homecoming to me is a time of reflection. I think back on whatever may be going on in the world, with me or my family, but one thing I know for sure, one weekend in October of every year will be the “Greatest Homecoming on Earth”. It’s a time to reach back and say to your own family or friends that this is spirit of my Alma Mater. Nothing else matters but making sure you are in place Saturday morning for the parade, have your tailgate spot, ticket to the game (if you go), and family all around you! Homecoming is like an extra Holiday: place each year where you can kick back and relax with some of your old college friends and reminisce about how A&T was when you were a student. Being an Aggie is a spirit by its self, but Homecoming is the essence of that spirit. Aggie spirit is more than just a game, it’s the people who show up and show out! There are many friendly faces who treat you as family and as if they have known you all of your life! Only a true Aggie can appreciate the love that is unmovable at Aggieland. Homecoming, to me, is not just about the football game, if it was then our celebrations would be damped if we loss. But any true Aggie knows that doesn’t even matter, because we will still fellowship, eat, party and have a good time anyway! I remember, as a little girl who grew up on the corner of Bluford and Laurel, watching the homecoming parade before the actual parade even began because the line up was on Laurel St. right beside my house. I remember participating in the parade all of my life as a little girl. I was either a cheerleader, queen of an organization, in the band, or representing my church. Being an Alumna, I have a greater appreciation for ALL of the Homecoming celebration. Words can’t express how overjoyed my heart and life are to be apart of this university. Since my spirit is heightened yearly, I now know the true meaning of “Aggie Born, Aggie Bred, When I Die I’ll be Aggie Dead!” This year will be another year of “The Greatest Homecoming on Earth”.

Homing at NC A&T is truly ‘the greatest show on earth.” When I came to Greensboro years ago, I had never seen anything so thrilling as homecoming. I’ve heard of a lot of homecomings from different venues but A&T’s homecoming is truly that, on home coming day, I see people that I know that I have not seen since the last homecoming. I often say that A&T’s homecoming brings people out of the woods and the woodwork. Homecoming to is so much, it’s out of town company, it’s parades, vending, sausage dogs with onions, tickets, games, cheerleaders, bands, excitement, a new outfit, AGGIEPRIDE for real. Students, parents, concerts, a real sense of community, and people just having a good time and for at least that one week, forgetting about life’s cares and enjoying the moment of the greatest show on earth”!

Once a year, A & T Homecoming gives me a chance to take a step back in my life time and re-live how I met and cherish the friendships that I made for life over 40 years ago. It gives me just as much pleasure seeing them as a 60 year old person as it did when we were in our 20's.

Homecoming means a lot to me, especially A&T's Homecoming. It is a time when I allow myself to visit the best HBCU in the nation to show off my Aggie Pride and just have fun with old classmates, other alumni and current students as family. It is also a time to celebrate another year of A&T's existence. I look forward to participating in A&T's Homecoming each year because it is rewarding and I haven't missed it since I started in 1995. I love A&T cause I'm...."Aggie born, Aggie breed and when I die, I'll be Aggie dead."

Homecoming to me means lots of excitement and work! I am a fairly new employee at A&T in the Office of Alumni Affairs and this will also be my very first A&T Homecoming! There's lots of work and activity taking place in my office in preparation for Homecoming and I'm excited because I will get to experience the Greatest Homecoming on Earth firsthand!
