Cool To Be Smart

It's cool to be smart at A&T because:

• A&T means preparation for career and life. Students gain professional and life skills that will enable their success.

• A&T means relationionships. Friendships created at A&T last a lifetime. Faculty members are genuinely concerned about students and develop nurturing, supportive relationships that help assure academic success.

• A&T means the HBCU tradition. The history of the institution, and especially its mark in the civil rights movement, creates a special culture of nurture and pride.

• A&T means community and service leadership. The strong efforts for volunteer service and community involvement help create the essence of A&T. Students learn leadership skills through their involvement in student organizations as well as in their philanthropic efforts.

• A&T means a culture of Aggie Pride (network, support, family). Aggie Pride is the glue that pulls the Aggie Family together as one. Over 40,000 alumni, show their Aggie Pride worldwide across a wide range of professional positions and businesses. This sense of Aggie Pride and resulting support provide a warm, caring, inviting environment for learning.

William Mangum and Chancellor James C. Renick
William Mangum and Chancellor James C. Renick

Renowned painter William Mangum and Chancellor James C. Renick with historic Dudley Building and February One monument portrait

William Mangum states:

"As a painter capturing the spirit, heritage and beauty of university campuses, it was a pleasure and honor to be commissioned by North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Chancellor Renick's enthusiasm for the project and reception to my original made this one of the most rewarding participations I have encountered. I truly believe that alumni will appreciate this beautiful rendition of their campus. I know that many will enjoy having a copy of it in their homes and offices reminiscing about their memorable times on campus.

Surrounded by majestic oak trees, the stately Dudley Building caught my attention the first time I stepped on the campus. The play of light that filtered below these trees erupting with springtime in their buds was the promise of a new generation that was about to graduate. My thoughts carried me back to the day they were planted. Nearly a century has passed and countless graduates have left with fond memories and missions in their hearts to change a way of life for themselves and their nation. From the monument of February One to the addition of Aggie benches, new and old merge to celebrate all that makes North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University one of the finest institutions in the nation."
---Renowned painter, William Mangum
