Interim Provost named

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Chancellor James C. Renick announced March 22 the appointment of Dr. Janice G. Brewington as interim provost and vice chancellor of academic affairs, effective May 1.

Researcher Appreciation Day

The Division of Research and Economic Development at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is gearing up for its annual Researcher Appreciation Day that will be held Friday, April 7 in the Fort Interdisciplinary Research Center.

Researcher Appreciation Day recognizes the achievements of faculty and student researchers. The faculty and graduate students will display posters highlighting their research accomplishments.

Royall Mack, Executive-in-Residence

Royall Mack, CEO of Ciera Enterprises Inc., has been named an Executive-in-Residence at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

An A&T alumnus, Mack is a retired corporate officer of The Gillette Company having served most recently as the corporate vice president of civic affairs. In this capacity, he led Gillette’s civic and external affairs programs worldwide. Under his leadership The Gillette Company adopted the Return on Investment Measurement resulting in a $1 million contribution to N.C. A&T, the largest gift to an HBCU in the history of the Gillette Company.

As an Executive-in-Residence, Mack will share his experience and expertise as guest lecturer in several of the University’s academic and student life programs.

Fast Track to Teaching

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University announces a licensure friendly program called Fast Track to Teaching. This new initiative is designed for math and science professionals who want to make a career change and become licensed teachers of math and science.

N.C. A&T School of Education will host an informational session pertaining to this program Saturday, April 15 from 10 a.m. to noon in Hodgin Hall.

New Science Building Ribbon Cutting and Dedication Ceremony

The College of Arts & Sciences cordially invites you to the New Science Building Ribbon Cutting and Dedication Ceremony, Friday, April 7 at 10 a.m. The New Science Building is located on the corner of Sullivan Street and Charles Drew Drive.

The 74,100 sq. ft. building was built at a cost of $21,831,600. It will house the chemistry and psychology departments.

“In the rapidly changing scientific environment our students need cutting edge tools to achieve their greatness,” said Dr. Michael Plater, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “This magnificent building and gift from the people of North Carolina provides A&T students with the apparatus to engage the world from a position of strength.”

U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Alphonso Jackson will be the keynote speaker at Annual Spring Commencement to be be held Saturday, May 13 in the Greensboro Coliseum.

Thomas Friedman addressed packed house in Aggieland

New York Times foreign affairs columnist and Pulitzer Prize author Thomas Friedman spoke today at N.C. A&T’s Alumni-Foundation Event Center.

He discussed his bestseller, The World is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-First Century. The book is A&T’s text-in-community for the 2005-2006 academic year.

Friedman is one of the world’s preeminent commentators on international affairs, and a three-time Pulitzer Prize winner. He received his third Pulitzer Prize several months following 9/11 for his Op-Ed page column for the New York Times. The Pulitzer Board cited his “clarity of vision, based on extensive reporting, in commenting on the worldwide impact of the terrorist threat.”

New Chief

Curtis W. Bigelow has been appointed assistant vice chancellor for Police and Public Safety at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

Bigelow has worked at the university for 13 years in various capacities within Police and Public Safety. He also has 20 years of military service and experiences as a North Carolina state trooper.
