UNC Board of Governors Waives Fall Tuition and Fees for Students from Hurricane-Stricken Universities

News Release

September 8, 2005

UNC Board of Governors Authorizes Waiver of Fall 2005 Tuition and Fees for Students from Universities Closed Due to Hurricane Katrina

CHAPEL HILL -- The UNC Board of Governors today adopted a resolution waiving tuition and mandatory fees-for the 2005 fall semester only-for students temporarily displaced because of Hurricane Katrina. In the days following this massive natural disaster, all 16 campuses of the University of North Carolina have worked to accommodate impacted students on a space-available basis, with preference given to students who are residents of North Carolina.

To be eligible for this special tuition and fee waiver, students must have been enrolled for the 2005 fall semester in a college or university that is closed for the entire semester due to the hurricane, and subsequently have been admitted to a UNC campus, based upon academic criteria and available institutional capacity and resources. Campus administrators and the State Education Assistance Authority are assisting affected students in obtaining any state or federal financial aid for which they may be eligible.

Guidance for prospective students is available on each campus's website.
A copy of the resolution, as well as a direct link to each UNC campus, can be found at www.northcarolina.edu
