In Memory of Rosa Parks

North Carolina A&T State University lowered its flags at half staff in memory of the late civil rights activist Rosa Parks, who died Oct. 24 at age 92. In 1955, Parks refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery, Ala. bus to a white man. Her actions sparked a bus boycott in Montgomery that lasted 381 days. In 1960, four A&T freshmen Franklin McCain, Jibreel Khazan (Ezell Blair), Joseph McNeil and the late David Richmond refused to give up their seats at the downtown Greensboro Woolworth lunch counter. Parks and the A&T Four/Greensboro Four’s non-violent acts against social injustice enhanced the quality of life for minorities in this country.
