Writing @ A&T, North Carolina
A&T State University’s new Creative Writing Program! With our emphasis on
craft, tradition and innovation, our faculty of writers and scholars stand
ready to foster literary excellence in our students.
Creative
Writing @ A&T offers a Bachelors’
of Arts in English, Creative Writing with 125/126 semester hours. The concentration (24 Semester hours) currently consists of
courses in fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction and dramatic writing. Students
are also offered the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skill of creative
writing to practical, real life situations through participation in the
service-learning course: Creative Literary Production and Service in Society
(CLAPS).
Our mission is to serve and educate writers in a
challenging yet supportive
community. In addition to the
core offerings of workshops and craft classes, with an emphasis in African
American Literature and other World
Literatures, our students are enriched by our new Visiting Writers Series which
features workshops and readings by nationally and regionally recognized
writers. Our list has included visits from:

We also offer opportunities for
student writers to:
· participate in the Aggie’s Open-Mic
Night;
· perform in A&T’s Premiere Spoken
Word Troupe: Poetic Insurgence;
· publish in our new literary journal:
Encore
· join the creative writing club: Freedom
Scribes. Students will also have the opportunity to be recognized for their
accomplishments through their participation in our writing competitions for
both fiction and poetry:
