Mission Statement
The purpose of Counseling Services is to assist
students in accomplishing their personal, academic and career goals through
counseling, testing and enrichment programs. To accomplish its mission,
Counseling Services has a well developed set of goals that are consistent
with the mission of the University and the goals of the Student Affairs
Division.
Confidentiality
Counseling services are confidential, in keeping
with ethical standards of the American Counseling Association, and/or the American Psychological
Association. No information is released to outside parties without the
client's
prior written consent. All persons using Counseling Services are advised in writing of
the specific legal limits of confidentiality.
Rights
and Responsibility
Goals and Objectives
Provide high quality individual and group counseling
services to students who may be experiencing psychological, academic, career
or behavioral difficulties.

Academic/career/personal counseling sessions are
conducted with students on a daily basis.

New students are contacted for counseling interviews
by September 30th each year.

Freshman students whose GPA fall below 2.0 at the
end of their first semester are tracked. They are notified by mail
and asked to meet with a counselor.

Probation students are referred by letter from the
Fall semester by the Registrar by February 15th.

Information about tutorial services from the University's
Schools and Departments are posted each semester by October 15th and February
15th.
Provide programming focusing upon the developmental
needs of students and maximize their potential to benefit from the academic
environment.
Provide
testing and evaluative assessment services to help foster student self
understanding and decision making.

A calendar of all testing programs is planned by
September lst of each year.

The Freshman Testing Program is reviewed each year.
Provide professional development opportunities for
staff including in-service training programs, workshops and other continuing
education activities.

Staff are to attend at least one professional meeting.

Staff meetings are held once a week.

At least one In-Service Training Conference is held
per semester.
Provide consultative services to the Institution
to make the environment as beneficial as possible for the intellectual,
emotional and physical development of students.

Counselors conduct consultation sessions with various departments
each year (ex. Study Skills, Special Programs).
Conduct research, planning and training programs
that will be responsive to internal as well as external needs.

All outreach programs are evaluated by May 1 of each
year.
