Support Groups

Counseling Services staff facilitate several groups each academic term. Although some groups, such as Adjustment to College and Substance Abuse, we welcome suggestions for groups that could be started on the A&T campus.

Active Minds
Description
Active Minds is a peer run advocacy group that seeks to bring awareness of mental health issues and remove the stigma of mental illness. Active Minds members will participate in campus-wide events and national programs related to mental health awareness. For more questions about the organization go to www.activeminds.org

Aggie Reflections
Description
This grief sharing group is to help you know yourself better by listen to others who can validate us and hear others experiences which may shed light on our own. This group will be a community of kindred spirits where you can cry without apologizing.

Aggies Against Violence
Description
Sexual violence is a complex and traumatic experience for both the victim as well as their support system – family members, friends, and colleagues.” This group is designed for victims of sexual violence to come together to discuss coping and survival skills to help a successful road to recovery.

Anger Management
Description
The group is designed to help you reduce both your emotional feelings and the physiological arousal that anger causes. Perhaps, you can't get rid of, or avoid, the things or the people that enrage you, nor can you change them, but you can learn to control your reactions. Open to all who want to learn to better control anger.

Description

Psychoeducational Substance Abuse Group (for mandated students only)

Description
This group is an education/intervention group for students that have been involved with the university judicial affairs process. The first group will be a closed group running for five consecutive weeks starting September 23, 2009. Implementation of a second group this semester is to be announced at a later date.

Square Pegs, Round Holes: Being the Minority on an HBCU Campus

Description
A series of meetings especially intended for A & T students who identify as a member of a cultural group that is the minority on this campus. The focus of these meetings will be discussing the various facets of identity, what it's like to be culturally different at A & T, and on providing support with concerns related to "fitting-in" at A & T. We welcome individuals regardless of their age, disability status, ethnic, gender, immigration status, religious, or sexual orientation background.
