Spanish for Teachers, Administrators, and Staff(Web-Enhanced)

Spanish for Teachers, Administrators, and Staff, or STAS, focuses on the needs of individuals who work in school settings. STAS offers school personnel and school resource officers the opportunity to learn functional phrases needed for immediate communication with Spanish-speaking clientele (i.e. students, parents, etc.) as related to school settings and situations, vocabulary related to the workplace and functional grammar. An optional two-week of cultural activities-oriented exercises are available including meringue lessons, field trip to a Hispanic restaurant, and a Hispanic movie with follow-up discussion.

Pharmacy Technician Certification Course

This comprehensive 50 hour program will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Technicians work in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies and other health care settings - working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Course content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Students will learn dosage calculations, I.V. flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement.

Medical Billing and Coding Program

This combined billing and coding course offers the skills needed to solve insurance billing problems, how to manually file claims (using the CPT and ICD-9 manual), complete common insurance forms, trace delinquent claims, appeal denied claims and use generic forms to streamline billing procedures. The course covers the following areas: CPT (Introduction, Guidelines, Evaluation and Management), specialty fields (such as surgery, radiology and laboratory), ICD-9 (introduction and guidelines) and basic claims processes for medical insurance and third party reimbursements. Students will learn how to find the service and codes using manuals, (CPT, ICD-9 and HCPCS).   Students who complete this course could be qualified to sit for the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) - Certified Professional Coder Exam (CPC or CPC – H Apprentice); the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Certified Coding Associate (CCA) exam; and/or other National Certification Exams.

Phlebotomy Technician Certification Course

Phlebotomy Technician Program prepares professionals to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis.  Students will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. Classroom and lab work includes terminology, anatomy and physiology; blood collection procedures; specimen hands-on practice; and clinical training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods.

EKG Technician Certification Program

This comprehensive Certified EKG Technician Program prepares students to function as EKG/Cardiovascular Technicians and to take the American Society of Phlebotomy Technician (ASPT)  – Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician exam and other National Certification Exams. This course will include important practice and background information on anatomy of the heart and physiology, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, laboratory assisting, respiratory therapy assisting, electrocardiography and echocardiography.  Additionally, students will practice with equipment and perform hands on labs including introduction to the function and proper use of the EKG machine and the Holter Monitor, the normal anatomy of the chest wall for proper lead placement, echocardiography, 12-lead placement and other clinical practices.

Certificate Programs

Six Sigma Certificate Program

The Six Sigma Certificate Program will provide you with training toward ASQ Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB) and Black Belt (CSSBB) certification in a 91-hour combined classroom and on-line format.

Program Content

Program content will follow the entire six sigma body of knowledge as defined by the American Society for Quality. Your tuition will include texts and a one-year ASQ membership to facilitate access to many quality articles and literature.

Program Goals
  • Provide students with a solid foundation in six sigma by covering the ASQ six sigma body of knowledge.
  • Provide hands-on experience with six sigma tools.
  • Develop critical thinking skills needed for effective application of six sigma tools and leadership of six sigma projects
  • Completion of a six sigma project (required to “sit” for the CSSBB certification examination).

Registered Nurse First Assistant Program (RNFA)

RNFA is an expanded practice course for operating room nurses, nurse midwives and nurse practitioners to provide the preoperative nurse with the advanced knowledge and skill to function at an advanced practice level. Based on the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) Core Curriculum, this program is one of only 22 approved programs Nationwide that has met specific criteria and is accepted by the CCI (Competency and Credentialing Institute) as an acceptable program for CRNFA eligibility. As a RNFA, your nursing role will be expanded and requires independent nursing judgment related to tissue handling, retracting, providing exposure, and clamping, ligating, and suturing and providing hemostasis.

Train the Trainer

Train the Trainer provides two day, 16-hours hands-on training to meet the criteria specified for competency from planning the job through completion. Interactive presentations and practical demonstrations are combined in the seminar to provide the in-house trainer with a thorough knowledge base, including technical rescue knowledge in case of rescue situation should arise. The participants will earn 1.6 Continuing Education Units (CEU) from North Carolina A&T State University. Prerequisites: (Advanced Climber &Tower Rescue)

Height Modernization Workshops

HTMOD-Precise Digital Leveling Workshop

North Carolina A&T State University, in conjunction with the National Geodetic Survey (NGS), and with the assistance of North Carolina Geodetic Survey (NCGS), will offer a two-day (16 hour) Precise Digital Leveling workshop for those engaged in height modernization and its use for precision geomatics and engineering application. Emphasis is placed on precise digital/bar-code levels and support equipment as well as how geodetic leveling is an integral part of Height Modernization.

HTMOD-Basic & Advanced Workshops

Height Modernization (HM) is a series of activities designed to advance and promote the determination of elevations by Global Positioning Systems (GPS) surveying, in conjunction with traditional leveling.
