Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO) Scholarship

 

Background

 

The Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO) = was founded in 1984 with these stated goals:

·                  &= nbsp;  To provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences on dam safety iss= ues

·                  &= nbsp;  To foster interstate and inter-governmental cooperation in dam safety

·                  &= nbsp;  To provide information and assistance to state dam safety programs and to the ASDSO membership

·                  &= nbsp;  To provide representation of state interests before Congress and federal agenc= ies responsible for dam safety

·                  &= nbsp;  To improve the efficiency and effectiveness of state dam safety programs

 

Recognizing that one of the keys to achievement of the= se goals is the development of well-trained technical persons with an interest= in one of the many scientific fields related to dam safety, ASDSO established = its Dam Safety Scholarship Program in 1992.

 

Criteria=

 

Must be a US citizens and enrolled full-tome at the se= nior level (during the 2009/2010 year) in an accredited civil engineering progra= m, or in a related field as determined by ASDSO, and must demonstrate an inter= est in pursuing a career in hydraulics, hydrology, or geotechnical disciplines related to the design, construction, and operation of a dam. Undergraduate students planning to graduate in May/December 2010 will be eligible for the 2009 scholarship.

 

Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average = 2.5 for the first three years of college and be recommended by their academic advisor. They must also submit a typewritten essay on the topic: What is AS= DSO and why is dam safety important.

 

Attach the following with the application:

1. Transcripts of all university education (up through= Fall 2008 semester)

2. Three letters of recommendation, one of which must = be from the academic advisor (Copy the   =         =             &nb= sp;            =            at= tached Reference Form as needed).

3. Essay including proposed curriculum of study

Application must be postmarked no later than March 31,= 2009. Announcement of successful candidates will be made in June of 2009.
