The Office
of the Vice
Chancellor
for
Information
Technology
and Chief
Information
Officer is
responsible
for
strengthening
and
supporting
the
University’s
learning,
discovery,
and
engagement
activities
by providing
the
leadership
to position
the
University
on a path
that
represents
operational
excellence
and
integrates
advanced
technologies
that enhance
teaching,
learning,
and
research.
Seven units
report to
the Office
of the Vice
Chancellor.
These are:
Applications
Support,
Digital
Media
Services,
Network and
Communications,
Security
Compliance
and
Policies,
Support
Services,
Systems and
Data Center
Operations,
and Teaching
and Learning
Technology.
Applications
The
Applications
Support unit
is led by a
DoIT
director and
is
responsible
for
enterprise
computing
and related
data
management
activities
for the
University.
This office
provides
guidance and
oversight of
the
implementation
of
technology
supported by
the division
and
develops,
maintains,
and provides
technical
support for
the campus
enterprise
systems. The
following
departments
within this
unit
include: 1)
Database
Administration
2)
Enterprise
Resource
Planning 3)
Web Support
Services and
4) Data
Management.
Digital
Media
Services
The
Digital
Media
Services
unit is led
by a DoIT
director and
is
responsible
for
developing,
deploying
and managing
the
infrastructure
and
curriculum
to deliver
the
technology
proficiencies
and
professional
development
competencies
of the
University
community.
Digital
Media
Services
unit engages
in
community-based
initiatives
to address
the ‘digital
divide’.
This unit
also manages
the
instructional
design
development
and support
department
which offer
Blackboard®
services and
e-Learning
services.
The
departments
within this
unit are: 1)
Media
Services 2)
Instructional
Design
Development
& Support 3)
Teaching and
Learning
Environments
4) Video
Services,
and 5) TV
Studio.
Network and
Communications
The
Networking
and
Communications
unit is led
by an
Assistant
Vice
Chancellor
and is
responsible
for
providing
state-of-the
art network
and
communication
technologies
for the
University.
Services
include a
high-speed
fiber based
infrastructure
to ensure
reliable
voice, data,
and video as
well as
multimedia
network
connections.
The
departments
within this
unit are: 1)
Data Network
Services and
2)
Telecommunication
Services.
Security
Compliance
and Policies
The Security
Compliance &
Policies
unit is led
by a DoIT
manager.
Their role
is to assist
the campus
community
with
identifying,
evaluating,
and
mitigating
IT security
risks. By
having a
perspective
of the
University's
business
needs,
strategic
security
solutions
can be
implemented
to promote
the
confidentiality,
integrity,
and
availability
of the
University's
IT
resources.
Support
Services
The Support
Services
unit is led
by a DoIT
director and
is
responsible
for
determining
standards
for computer
hardware,
software,
and related
equipment;
it ensures
that such
equipment is
appropriate
for the
University's
computing
environment.
Furthermore,
Support
Services
provides
assistance
in
information
deliver,
problem
management,
and
technical
troubleshooting
for
recommended
hardware and
supported
software
packages for
the
University
and is
responsible
for managing
and
supporting
institutional
classrooms
and public
access
computing
labs.
Additionally,
Support
Services
consults
with
distributed
IT
professionals
on campus
regarding
setting up
and
administering
local area
networks in
their
respective
departments.
The
departments
within this
unit are: 1)
Aggie
Technical
Support
[ATS],
formerly
Aggie Help
Desk, 2)
Student
Technology
Services
[STS], and
3) Academic
and
Residential
computer
labs.
Systems and
Data Center
Operations
The Systems
and Data
Center
Operations
unit is led
by a DoIT
manager and
is
responsible
for the
overall
architectural
design and
coordination
of the IT
infrastructure.
This unit
ensures that
the campus
infrastructure
is developed
and
implemented
using a
consistent,
comprehensive
set of
guiding
principles
and
standards.
The mission
of the
Systems and
Data Center
Operations
unit is to
provide
day-to-day
management
and support
of the
academic,
administrative
and
auxiliary
campus
computing
systems.
This
includes
server and
server-based
application
monitoring
and ensuring
that the
equipment is
fully
functional
and
accessible.
Teaching and
Learning
Technology
This unit is
led by an
Assistant
Vice
Chancellor
and is
responsible
for
addressing
faculty,
staff, and
student
professional
development
and training
in the area
of
technology
proficiency.
Teaching and
Learning
Technology [TLT]
works
closely with
the Academy
for Teaching
and Learning
and the
Center for
Distance
Learning to
assist
faculty and
students
effectively
leverage
technology
in the
teaching and
learning
environment.
TLT is also
responsible
for managing
the DoIT
departments
that plan,
install,
monitor, and
support the
university’s
information
technology
infrastructure
and for
communicating
IT
initiatives
that impact
or may be of
interest to
the
university
community.
