The faculty members in the department have research interests in diffusion through porous media, mixing, thermodynamics, surface and interfacial phenomena, membrane separations and membrane reactors, process dynamics and control, chemical reaction engineering, computational fluid mechanics, environmental engineering, biomedical engineering, and biochemical engineering.

Research in most of these areas are funded through State and Federal agencies. The department has already established research laboratories for diffusion measurements, thermodynamics, and membrane science. The department has two gas chromatographs, a high performance liquid chromatograph, an FTIR, and an atomic absorption spectrometer.
