Dr.
Franklin King, D.Sc., Professor and
Chairman of Chemical Engineering at North Carolina A&T State University. Dr.
King started the ChE Department in 1985 with one faculty and nine students. In
fifteen years, the department has transformed into mid-size ChE program offering
both BS and MS degrees in chemical engineering. Dr.
King has been involved in studies of the diffusion of gases through porous media
for the last five years. His research interests are in diffusion through porous
media, pharmacokinetics and process control. With Dr. Ilias, Dr. King is
currently involved in the development of composite membranes for high
temperature gas separations. Drs. King and Ilias are also collaborating on a NSF
funded project with Clemson University to increase the effectiveness of several
basic engineering courses. Dr. King also did research in modeling and process
analysis for a number of years. Drs Ilias, Singh and King have also obtained
finding to study local industries for development of industries for the future.
They also recently received funding to participate in a fuel cell demonstration
project to power intermediate sized buildings. For ten years, he was a
consultant to the National Institute of Health. During that time he has been
actively involved in the development of kinetic models for distribution,
metabolism, binding and excretion of anti-cancer drugs and environmental
contaminants in humans and laboratory animals. Dr. King is an expert on
Curriculum Development, ABET Outcome Assessment and Effective Teaching. To his
credit, Dr King has over 20 peer reviewed journal papers and numerous technical
presentations and conference proceeding papers.
