at the University of North Carolina A & T State University.

Dr. Assefa moved to academia in the Fall of 2005 after 10 years of basic science research on
heavy elements' spectroscopy at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, in Tennessee.
His work in Oak Ridge focused mainly on compounds of some of the exotic man-made
elements including americium through einsteinium.
At NC A & T State University, Dr. Assefa teaches Inorganic and General Chemistry classes to graduate
and undergraduate students. His current research interest is in the synthesis of early-late bimetallic transition metal complexes with carefully designed multidentate ligands.
He is also involved in the synthesis of optically active late transtion-lanthanide bimetallic complexes. He studies the excited state dynamics of these compounds using laser based spectroscopics techniques.
