  • Current Projects
    • Development and Characterization of Electrolyte Systems using Infrared and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopies.
      • We are currently investigating a variety of solutions of lithium salts in pure and mixed solvent systems as electrolytes for lithium ion batteries. The electrical conductivity, viscosity, and dielectric properties of these electrolye systems, as well as the pure and mixed solvents, are being measured as a function of temperature and concentration to determine correlations between electrolytes and solvent system properties. Infrared spectroscopic studies are also being performed to determine the strength of solvent-solvent and solvent-solute interactions. It is our ultimate goal to derive predictive equations that may be used to estimate electrolyte conductivities from pure solvent or mixed solvent properties.
    • Synthesis, Characterization and Spectroscopic Studies of Mononuclear and Binuclear Models for Cupro-proteins.
      • Our current projects in this area involves the determination of speciation constants for the formation of four coordinate copper(II) macrocyclic amines complexes using infrared, uv-visible and electron spin resonance spectroscopies and kinetic studies of the formation and subsequent pH dependent reactions of stable intermediates. Formation constants, concentration profiles and individual species spectra are being estimated using evolving factor analysis and other n-way methods. Kinetic data for the formation and subsequent reactions of stable intermediates are being collected by ir and uv-visible spectroscopies, and are being analyzed by factor analytical methods.
