Seniors Honored in Final Home Dual Meet

Lady Aggies take second place overall.

Greensboro, N.C., - January 29, 2005 - Radford University took first place in 10 of 11 events as they cruised to a sweep against N.C. A&T (74-24) and Campbell (84-11) in dual meet action in Corbett Sports Center.

N.C. A&T closed out its home meet schedule with a victory over Campbell, winning by a score of 53-42.

Seniors Asha Clinkscales and Tiffany Mack were honored for their four years of varsity competition on Senior Night. Clinkscales, the team captain, swam the anchor leg on the 200-yard medley relay, helping N.C. A&T to a time of 1:56.85, good for second place. She also earned key points by finishing second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.17.

Mack finished fifth in the 1000-yard freestyle, with a time of 14:21.70.

"I'm proud of my seniors," said head coach Shawn Hendrix.  "They came in and performed well beyond the call of duty for four years. They are exceptional people and I appreciate them for their hard work, in both the classroom and in the pool. We will miss them, but their legacy will follow them in these next few years."

Junior Andrea Perry was the only individual winner for the Lady Aggies, taking home first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:05.94.

The Lady Aggies fared very well in relays, with a first and second place finish. In the 200-yard medley, N.C. A&T turned in a time of 1:56.85.  The hosts won the final home relay event of the season, the 200-yard freestyle medley, with a time of 1:46.41.

Following the meet, students and fans were treated to a special relay race. Members of the Aggie football and baseball teams took on the swimming team, helped by an eager Chancellor James Renick.

Renick, who swam the anchor leg for the swim team, cruised to an easy finish, sending the crowd into cheers.

"We loved the participation from our crowd and our fellow student athletes," said Clinkscales. "University support is so important to us, especially when we are at home. It was really exciting to see our Chancellor get involved. That shows us how much Aggie Pride really means to him."

"Hopefully our other athletic teams will get in on the competition next year," said Hendrix. "We want as much support as possible, and we thank the football and baseball teams for getting it started."

The Lady Aggies will close the season on Feb. 16-19 at the Northeast Conference Championships in Landover, Md.
