N.C. A&T wins Historically Black College and University Invitational

Five personal best times and one school record broken at the invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C., October 16, 2004 – The Lady Aggies placed first at the HBCU Invitational held in Tallahassee, Fla., with a score of 98 as they outlasted Howard (96) and Florida A&M (81).

Freshman Gia Wright finished first in the 100-yard freestyle (57.71) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.29).

Both times were personal bests for Wright and her time in the 100-yard breaststroke broke the old meet record of 1:10.47. Despite coming in second, the Aggies broke a school record in the 200-yard freestyle relay as the team of Kristin Lewis (soph.), Asha el-Shair (soph.), Asha Clinkscales (sr.) and Wright finished with a time of 1:45.43. 400-yard freestyle relay. 

Clinkscales also recorded two personal best times on Saturday. The senior placed first in the 50-yard freestyle with a personal best time of 25.48 and missed surpassing the meet record by 63 hundredths of a second. She placed second behind Wright in the 100-yard freestyle, posting a personal best of 58.69.

Lady Aggies Place Second in Relay Carnival

Four Aggies relay teams finish in first place

GREENSBORO, N.C., October 8, 2004 – The Lady Aggies placed second in the HBCU Relay Carnival held at Corbett Sports Center. The N.C. A&T team of Gia Wright, Andrea Perry and Shanell Thomas placed first in the 300-yard women breaststroke relay. Thomas, Wright and Perry teamed with Asha Clinkscales to finish first in the 500-yard freestyle relay. 

N.C. A&T won two other relays – the 400-yard freestyle and the 300-yard backstroke relays. Junior Sujotta Pace and Clinkscales paced the Aggies in the 300-yard backstroke relay, while sophomore Asha el-Shair, Perry, Clinkscales, and Wright finished with a time of 4:10.39 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The scores from the relay will be combined with the individual scores from the upcoming Oct. 16 individual dual meet results at Florida A&M to determine a champion for the meet.
