Accreditation attests to qualitative standards of performance and
productivity. The undergraduate business programs at N.C. A&T
were accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of
Business May, 1979. The undergraduate accounting program was
separately accredited by the AACSB in April, 1986 making it the
first undergraduate accounting program at a historically black
university to be accredited. Currently, only two undergraduate
accounting programs at historically minority universities are
accredited by the AACSB. Nation ally, 122 universities have
undergraduate accounting programs which are AACSB accredited.
Approximately 1,200 students are enrolled in programs in the
School of Business and Economics. The Department of Accounting
enrolls approximately 450 students and actively recruits talented
students. Students enrolled in the program are active and have
assumed leadership positions in all phases of university life.
Approximately one-third of the Department's majors are honor
students. The Department of Accounting graduates 60-70 students
per academic year.
An abundance of Department activities are available to students
enrolled in the Ac counting Department. All accounting majors are
eligible to participate in the ALOBEAEM
Society (Accounting Club). The ALOBEAEM Society sponsors a
variety of professional development and social activities
designed to enhance the students' total development.
Students enrolled in the Department may be eligible for
membership in Beta Alpha Psi, the national
accounting honorary and professional fraternity for students in
accredited business pro grams. The Department's chapter of Beta
Alpha Psi (Zeta Sigma) sponsors a number of activities which
foster interaction among students and accounting professionals.
Zeta Sigma has consistently been recognized as superior, the
highest possible chapter rating.
To foster the enhancement of communication skills, accounting
majors may also participate in the Aggie Toastmasters Club.
Toastmasters provides students with an opportunity to improve
their presentation skills by making oral presentations ranging
from impromptu to planned speeches.
