The Department
of Accounting
offers a single undergraduate degree program leading to the
Bachelor of Science with a major in accounting.
Students completing
the undergraduate degree program in accounting are qualified
for a wealth of accounting, finance, taxation
and management
related positions with professional services firms, manufacturing
firms, and with governmental and not-for-profit
organizations.
Students desiring to obtain the CPA certificate in states requiring
150 hours of education are encouraged to
pursue a dual
major or the Master of Science in Management degree program
with an information systems concentration. Students
pursuing this
option may structure their program to meet the education requirements
to sit for the CPA Examination and to
become certified
in most jurisdictions. Notably, 150-hours
of education are
required to receive licensure in the state
of North Carolina.
The Department of Accounting (or accounting program)
has a rich legacy of educating business professionals
with a strong comprehension of accounting. The accounting
program was accredited in 1986 by AACSB International – The
Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
Only 167 US and international schools have earned this
incremental accreditation. This specialized accreditation
provides evidence of the Department’s focus on
academic excellence and continuous improvement in learning.
The Department
offers students majoring in accounting a holistic experience
to the business environment. An abundance of opportunities
for summer internships and permanent employment are available
in both private industry and public accounting. The Department
of Accounting has an extensive summer internship program.
In addition, the Department of Accounting student organizations
and other campus departments and programs provide assistance
to accounting majors in their efforts to launch a successful
career.
The Department
of Accounting strives to attract the best students. Various
competitive academic scholarships are available for qualified
students. Awards are based on specified criteria which
include academic performance, SAT score, rank in class
and extracurricular activities.
The Department
of Accounting, its alumni, business partners, faculty
and students are committed to academic excellence, professionalism,
leadership, and lifelong learning. We invite you to explore
