Spring 2017 Title III Graduate Symposium Events

The Graduate College and the Title III Office are pleased to announce the Spring 2017 Title III Graduate College Research Symposium. This Symposium, which will consist of a series of exciting events between March 30 and April 6, is a major opportunity for our graduate students to learn from guest speakers, develop academic and professional skills, and network with fellow students, alumni, faculty, and administrators.  

Please mark the following dates/times on your calendar and plan to attend as many of these events as possible. Note that all of the events listed below are open to all graduate students. There will also be a handful of additional events (not listed here) that are restricted to invited students only.

Symposium Phase III: "Attacking Identity: Reflections on an Unimagined Journey from 'Gangsta Nerd' to Astrophysicist"
Special Guest Speaker: Dr. Hakeem M. Oluseyi, Chief Science Officer, Discovery Communications/Science Channel; Space Science Education Lead for the Science Mission Directorate, NASA; Distinguished Research Professor, Department of Physics & Space Sciences, Florida Institute of Technology

Session 1: Keynote Public Address on "Unlimited Horizons"
Time: 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.
Location: Room 218, General Classroom Building (GCB)
Description: Despite the challenges of his external environment, Dr. Oluseyi became a successful astrophysicist, science educator, and advocate. Dr. Oluseyi will discuss his incredible personal journey and share insights on the future of scientific exploration.

Session 2: "On Becoming a Scientific Professional Scholar"
Time: 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Location: Room 218, General Classroom Building (GCB)
Description: This is an interactive session designed to model scientific professionalism and provide some down-in-the trenches tips and strategies on how to achieve high levels of professional status as a scientist.

Event Theme:  Reaching for the Stars: A Celebration of Title III Graduate Alumni Excellence in Research, Teaching, and Scholarship
Time: 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Description: This session will consist of panel discussions focused on three themes: 
* Reflections from Stars within the A&T Galaxy - Academic Career Paths 
* Reflections from Stars within the A&T Galaxy - Government Career Paths 
* Reflections from Stars within the A&T Galaxy - Corporate Career Paths
