Change in Program of Study/Degree Level

When a student progresses from one level of study to another, changes the program of study (including thesis to non-thesis) or applies for a co-major, it is necessary that Immigrations be notified for F-1 students and the Exchange Visitor Program for J-1 students. This process occurs when you change the program of study, move from a Bachelor’s to Master’s, from a Master’s to a Doctorate or from a Doctorate back to Master’s degree or pursue a co-major at the same institution. A new financial guarantee form for financial responsibility will be required in order to issue a new Form I-20 or DS-2019 to complete the notification process to Immigrations or the Exchange Visitor Program.

Change in Program of Study (Curriculum)

If you plan to change your curriculum or pursue a co-major, you will need to make an appointment with an ISSO Advisor for instructions on how to process the requested change. • Curriculum Change Form
  • Program of Study Completion Form: This form must be completed by your Academic Advisor to certify that you have continuously enrolled for a full course of study and provide a new expected date of completion (required).
  • A new Financial Guarantee Form

You must make an appointment to meet with an ISSO advisor to process a new Certificate of Eligibility (I-20 or DS-2019)

Change in Degree Level

If you request a change from one degree level to another, you must provide the following documents:

  • Letter of Acceptance or Change Approval from the appropriate Admissions Office, certifying you meet all requirements for admission at the new degree level.
  • A new Financial Guarantee Form

You must make an appointment to meet with an ISSO Advisor to process a new Certificate of Eligibility (I-20 or DS-2019)
