FAQs

Who is eligible to join an Intramural Sports team?

North Carolina A&T State University students, faculty or staff member with a valid N.C. A&T identification card.
Teams using players without a current A&T ID will forfeit all games in which those players participated.

What sports do you offer?

Most semesters we offer basketball, mini-soccer, volleyball, flag football and golf. Please note that sport offerings are subject to change from season to season.

I don’t have a team. Can I still participate?

Yes. If you do not have a team, you are considered a "free agent." Although not all sports offer free agent teams, free agents may sign onto a league's "free agent" team when available.

Where can I sign-up for Intramural Sports and get more information?

The A&T Intramural Office is located in room 105 of the new Aggie Fitness and Wellness Center on 201 N. Benbow Road. Our office is open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday. You may also email us at xcarring@ncat.edu or call us at (336) 285-4232.

Is there a roster limit for my team?

Yes. Each sport has a pre-determined roster limit. Once your team roster reaches the limit, it will be frozen and you will be unable to add any new participants. A participant is considered on your team roster if he or she is added whether or not he or she actually participated in a game.

TEAM ROSTER LIMITS

Basketball (5-on-5) Maximum 15 Minimum 5
Flag Football Maximum 14 Minimum 6
Mini Soccer Maximum 14 Minimum 6
Volleyball Maximum 12 Minimum 6

Can I replace one or more of the names on my team's roster?

Yes, a name placed onto a team roster, is not locked into that roster. Please keep in mind team roster limits (see above) when providing the names and banner numbers of your teammates at the time of entry. These names and banner numbers are locked into your team roster after preseason of the sporting event and may not be replaced (for any reason) at a later date before or during the Intramural Sports season.

Are there risks involved in playing Intramural Sports?

Yes.

ASSUMPTION OF RISKS: Participation in Intramural Sports carries with it certain inherent risks that cannot be eliminated regardless of the care taken to avoid injuries. The specific risks vary from one activity to another, but the risks range from 1) minor injuries such as scratches, bruises, and sprains to 2) major injuries such as eye injury or loss of sight, joint or back injuries, heart attacks, and concussions to 3) catastrophic injuries including paralysis and death.

Is medical coverage provided for participants?

No, medical coverage is not provided. We strongly recommend personal health insurance for all Intramural Sports participants. Each individual participating in Intramural Sports activities assumes the responsibility for their own health insurance needs. In the event of an injury, the Intramural Sports program and A&T will not cover payment for treatment.

Do I have to bring picture identification to every game?

Yes. Picture identification checks occur before every Intramural Sports contest. Failure to provide A&T identification will result in not being allowed to participate in Intramural Sports on that day. Absolutely no exceptions will be made.

My team can't make a game. What should I do?

If your team cannot make a scheduled contest, the team captain should notify the Intramural Sports office as soon as possible. Your team will have a forfeit loss and will not be able to reschedule that game.

What is a forfeit?

If the minimum numbers of eligible players (with valid student identification) do not show up within game time, the contest is recorded as a forfeit. A team must start with the minimum number of eligible players as stated in the rules for the sport or a forfeit is declared. If neither team has the minimum number of eligible players to start or finish a game, both teams shall receive a forfeit.

During the first week of play, it is required that teams show up with at least the minimum number of eligible players to reserve their spot in the league. A team forfeiting their first scheduled game of the season may be removed from their league without a refund. The Intramural Sports office will notify teams dropped from the league.

Will Intramural Sports games be played in inclement weather?

All Intramural Sports contests will be played as scheduled. Most games will be played rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, team captains are advised to contact the Intramural Sports office at (336) 285-4232 for an official decision from 3-3:30 p.m. If a final decision regarding rain has not been made, prepare your team to play. Officials will make a final decision on site.
