Student Insurance FAQs

1. Why has the mandatory health insurance policy been instituted?
The university has recommended that all students have health insurance. The high cost of health care in the United States presents a serious health and financial burden on our students and their families. Without adequate health insurance, unexpected medical expenses could determine your ability to remain enrolled at the university. The new mandatory requirement for student health insurance coverage will assist students in maintaining good health which is important for academic success.

2. Do I have to purchase the university student insurance plan?
No. Students are not required to purchase the university-sponsored health insurance plan if they are covered under an alternative insurance plan. These students covered under an alternative insurance plan have the option to waive out of the university insurance. Unless the student submits a waiver and proof of alternative health insurance coverage, he or she will pay the billed premium ($688.00 billed to student’s tuition) and be enrolled in the university-sponsored health insurance plan.
