Office of Research Services and Project Management
The Office of Research Services and Project Management helps faculty researchers develop competitive proposals and resubmissions for external funding. Its services include management of limited submissions, advice on proposal development based on best practices, expert advice on budget preparation, location of needed resources, and help with project management.
Services provided
- Assistance with executing and saving searches in COS Pivot that are based on your criteria and setting regular email updates for you.
- Targeted distribution of funding opportunities to departments or faculty members who have indicated an interest in a particular area of research.
- Assistance with interpreting requests for applications (RFAs) or proposals (RFPs) and locating collaborators
- Help, based on best practices, with developing and preparing proposals.
- Customized training on developing proposals and improving skills in technical writing for academic departments, colleges, and schools.
Limited submissions
In addition, this office also conducts internal competitive reviews to select proposals for submission when solicitations have restrictions on the number of submissions and on eligibility requirements. These solicitations are referred to as “limited submission” opportunities and may require internal coordination across schools, colleges and disciplines within the university. Ms. Evans works in coordination with the Vice Chancellor for Research & Economic Development, the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research, and the Council of Associate Deans to manage limited submissions and other special research funding opportunities. She oversees the day-to-day operations of the Office of Research Services and Project Management.
Margaret R. Bolick, Ph.D.
Technical Grant Writer and Interim Director for Undergraduate Research

Dr. Bolick helps PIs develop new proposals and resubmissions, drawing on her experience as an NSF-funded, lead PI and as a member of NSF review panels. She will proofread and edit grant proposals in any area. She monitors and distributes funding opportunities from federal agencies that fund research in non-medical science, agriculture, and engineering; from foundations; and from Nine Sigma. She will show faculty members how to set up and save personalized searches in COS Pivot and have updates emailed to them. She will give presentations on technical writing and proposal development to groups on campus.
Cindia Hairston
Budget Analyst

Ms. Hairston will help you prepare the forms for creating a budget in Banner after you receive your award. She will also help you prepare the forms for revising your budget after it has been awarded.
Nora Shively, M.A.
Proposal Development Specialist

Ms. Shively provides proposal development support services to faculty who are interested in pursuing research grant funding in the areas of health and human services, education, social and behavioral sciences, the humanities, nursing and medicine. She will meet one-on-one with a faculty member, or with a proposal development team, and discuss the proposed research objectives, review and interpret the application guidelines, identify needed partners, and establish a task list with timeline for completion of the proposal. Ms. Shively also provides training to departments and programs upon request and distributes targeted funding alerts issued by the NIH, HRSA, CDC, ED, DOJ, NEH and RWJF.
Natalie T. Teagle, B.S., B.A.
Budget Manager

Ms. Teagle will help you prepare the budget for your proposal. She is an expert on what expenses are allowed in budgets, how they should be justified, and how the budget should be formatted. Your budget must be sent to her for approval three days before it is due at the sponsor.
