Got QEP?

We teach students how to think, not what to think.
  • WHAT IS QEP?
A QEP is the Quality Enhancement Plan. It is required by SACS in order to demonstrate the University's commitment to ongoing quality enhancement of student achievement. Therefore, the QEP is a plan to improve the curriculum and instruction of the University. In A&T's case, Critical Thinking is the focus of our QEP.

  • WHAT DOES QEP HAVE TO DO WITH SACS?
The QEP is one of the many principles that has to be addressed regarding SACS compliance. Much of the re-accreditation is related to what we have done in the past, but the QEP is about what we will do in the future. The QEP will have to be approved by SACS when it sends a visiting team this spring.

  • WHAT IS SACS?
SACS is the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It is the accreditation organization that A&T earns its accreditation. Accreditation means that A&T meets quality standards. If an institution does not maintain its accreditation, then its students will not qualify for federal aid and they will have trouble getting accepted into other graduate programs.

  • HOW WILL THIS AFFECT OUR STUDENTS?
The QEP, focusing on Critical Thinking, will cause our faculty and staff to teach critical thinking in deliberate and explicit fashion. Therefore, our students should grow in critical thinking skills over the course of their four-year stay at A&T. This will make students more competitive in job seeking and more effective as employees and citizens in a 21st century global economy.

  • HOW WILL THIS AFFECT OUR ACADEMIC CULTURE?
Hopefully, because of the assessment requirements that go along with any QEP, our QEP will contribute to the development of a culture of scholarship and assessment.

  • WHAT DOES SACS AND QEP HAVE TO DO WITH ME?
Because we all have a role in the education of our students (students included), everyone has a responsibility to improve the University community. We all influence each other. Therefore, faculty, staff, students, administrators, and alumni need to make sure that we are all aware of the QEP. Remember: QEP = Critical Thinking. Upon implementation, we will all challenge each other to become engaging critical thinkers through both formal instruction and informal interaction.

  • WHY IS MY INPUT IMPORTANT?
    • The more people who look at the details of the QEP, the better it will become. Already in the past two input sessions, we have vastly improved the plan.

    • The QEP is a University community plan, that we will all have a role in carrying out. The process of providing input also helps the participant to learn the QEP's details and importance.
