N.C. - Lynne
Hinton, an author and pastor, will discuss her books "Garden
of Faith" and "Friendship Cake" at 3 p.m. Tuesday,
Nov. 19, in F. D. Bluford Library, seminar room #258. Hinton
was born in Durham, N.C., and raised in Fayetteville, N.C.
She received her master's of divinity from Pacific School of
Religion in Berkeley, Calif.
Ordained as an American Baptist minister in 1990, she worked
as a chaplain with Hospice of Rockingham County and later at Hospice
of Alamance-Caswell. In
1992, Hinton became the pastor of Mount Hope United Church of Christ
in southeast Guilford County and received the Privilege Call in the
United Church of Christ. In
1997, she left this pastorate to attend the North Carolina School
of the Arts, School of Filmmaking.
In 1998, she became the pastor of First Congregational United
Church of Christ, a predominantly African-American church in Asheboro,
N.C. Hinton's
other works include the novel The Things I Know Best and the
devotional guide, Meditations for Walking. |
