Harris and his team members are gearing up for the tournament.

HCASC has given students the opportunity to exercise teamwork and to network and establish long-term relationships with other contestants. During the competition, the initial field of 64 teams is pared down to 16 teams, of which 10 participate in a single-elimination playoff round until only the final four teams remain.

HCASC is the only competition of its kind and was established by American Honda Motor Co., Inc., in 1989. Since the inception of the program, more than 15,000 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) students have participated, and Honda has awarded nearly $3.5 million in grants to HBCUs to improve campus life through facility improvements and increasing academic resources.
