Greensboro Mayor Pro Tem to Speak at A&T

GREENSBORO - Greensboro Mayor Pro Tem Yvonne Jeffries Johnson will be the keynote speaker at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University’s Honors Day Convocation. The convocation will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, March 20, in Harrison Auditorium.

At the event, A&T high achievers will be recognized. The university will also acknowledge its outstanding teachers, researchers and administrators.

Johnson was elected to the Greensboro City Council in 1993 and became mayor
pro tem in 1998.

A native of Greensboro, Johnson is executive director for One Step Further Inc. She is a member of numerous civic and social organizations including Alpha Kappa

Alpha Sorority, Bennett College Alumni Association, Barrister’s Wives, IDK Bridge Club, Greensboro Junior League and YWCA. She is also a member of the National Black Child Development Institute, National Association for Blacks in Criminal Justice and the American Correctional Association.

Johnson received her B.A. degree in psychology from Bennett College and her M.S. degree in guidance and counseling from N.C. A&T.

Johnson is married to Walter T. Johnson Jr. They have four children, Walter T. Johnson III, Vernon Kennedy Johnson, Lisa Yvonne Johnson and Shannon Tamara Johnson.
